Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 4 medium onions chopped
- 8 ounces smoked ham
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 4 cups drained plum tomatoes
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- ¾ cup dry red wine
Instructions:
1. Heat the oil in a heavy medium-size saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onions and saute for 10 minutes.
2. Stir in the ham and garlic and saute for 5 minutes more.
3. Stir in the tomatoes, sugar, and wine. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with 1 pound thick spaghetti or ziti and plenty of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
